FCHA Annual General Meeting

February 3, 1998

It is time again for the annual general meeting of the false creek harbour authority.members of the FCHA will be asked to vote for directors to fill 4 positions.

Time: 7:00 PM

Place: Granville Island Hotel

The mandate of the False Creek Harbour Authority is to operate False Creek as a commercial fishing harbour. Directors of the FCHA set the policy and direction to fulfill this mandate. Once a year at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), the Board of Directors report to the membership on the FCHA’s progress.

The AGM serves several purposes: the financial and operational status of the FCHA are presented to the membership; and new directors are elected to the Board.

    TO BE ELECTED:

    Four directors from the membership.
    Nominations for directors must be submitted to the Board of Directors (Via the Harbour Manager) by January 22,1998.
    Nominations require 3 sponsors who meet the voting criteria.
    Nomination forms are available at the False Creek Harbour Office.

 

TO VOTE:

  1. The voting membership is limited to those owners or operators of home port vessels
  2. At registration, each registrant shall declare their name and their vessel’s name
  3. Each home port vessel is entitled to have only one vote. Either the owner or operator, but not both, may vote. In the event of joint ownership of a vessel only one vote is permitted.
  4. Only those persons having registered will be permitted to vote.

The voters’ list will be available for viewing at the Harbour Office from January 9, 1998.

AGM Questions & Answers

Who can vote at the AGM?

You must be a registered vessel owner or operator and have made False Creek your home port for the last year.

What is a home port vessel?

A home port vessel must have spent 4 months or more in False Creek Harbour over the last year. CFV’s who actively fish for more than 8 months a year must have designated False Creek as their home port.

Are proxy votes allowed? What if I have two boats?

Proxy votes are not allowed. You must be present to vote. If you own two or more boats you are on

HARBOUR NEWS

Plans for the Fish Sales float is proceeding. Facilities are planned to be available for the summer.
The waste oil sheds will be in place in January. Oil filter disposal will be available.
Please register your vehicle at the office. To obtain a parking permit you must provide the make and license.
The marked areas at the south end of "C" and "D" floats are reserved for transient CFV’s only.
We will be reorganizing open storage soon. Please insure that any goods in open storage are properly marked with your CFV number.

Meeting room construction will start on January 7, 1998. The Harbour Office will be temporally located in a trailer near the washrooms. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.

So you want to be a Director?

The Directors of the FCHA have an important job: They decide the policy that best serves the FCHA mandate. Listed below are some of the requirements:

Directors’ vessels must possess an active commercial fishing licence and make False Creek Harbour their home port.

Directors serve a 2 year term.

Directorship is an unpaid, voluntary position.

Directors must be prepared to commit some time to FCHA business. Board meetings occur several times a month in winter.

Fishers are required to help on the sub-committees, you don’t have to be a director.
